I've seen Alex play the F#Maj and the B fifth
(near the beginning of the song,) low on the neck
on the RTB & Counterparts tours. On the recording
and when played on the Signals- New World Tour,
he played it in the high neck position as shown here.

The Solo: After the openning dive bomb, keep the bar depressed, mute all
strings, except the G string, with the fret hand. Strike the natural
harmonic at the 12th fret then return bar gradually before the
onslaught really begins.  ;)
